First Camping Trip

For Tyler's birthday in June, I decided to buy him some new camping gear so we could have it and enjoy all the fun memories camping usually brings. Well, needless to say, we weren't as prepared as we thought. We left around 3:30 pm on Friday to get to a camp site and set up. We drove out to American Fork Canyon since we knew of some great places up there. After driving from site to site, we had the harsh realization that everything was completely full. Even worse-- you had to make reservations 5 days in advance! After thinking positive and telling ourselves that we just had one of the prettiest drives ever on the Alpine Loop, we ended on the other side of the loop in Provo Canyon. Next we drove to Deer Creek Reservoir and realized that we could pitch a tent there, but no fires. That, to us is not camping, folks. So we went on in to Heber. I remembered camping there in my singles ward and drove all the way out to a camp site. As you guessed it, couldn't camp there either. It was church owned property. Next on the list to try: Midway. We thought we were in luck since cars in front of us were going through the entrance just fine. Nope, all tent sites full!!! On the verge of frustration and tears, I said to Tyler, "Ok. just one more stop then we're going home!" We drove out to Rock Cliff which is the river area before it hits the Jordanelle Reservoir. Finally!!! Three hours later we find a spot! The park ranger got a kick out of us digging through our wallets and counting nickels and dimes to come up with the $16.00 it cost us to camp. The other bad thing though was that we had to park our car then CARRY all our gear in to our spot. Wow, that'll teach you to camp light. Eventually we made it and it ended up being a lot of fun! Lesson learned- make reservations if you want to camp at a site in Utah!

Sad to leave
